TD Uptown Live is returning this summer – virtually!
New Westminster’s popular summer music festival, TD Uptown Live, is coming to your living room. The Uptown Business Association of New Westminster is pleased to announce that the annual festival will be presented as a virtual concert event this year and hosted by TV personality Fiona Forbes.
Fans of Uptown Live will be able to access the two-hour virtual broadcast on Saturday August 22 at 6:00 pm through the Uptown Live website and Facebook page. Performances include BC artists Warren Dean Flandez, Fionn, Brass Camel, Ezra Kwizera, Krystle Dos Santos, Colleen Rennison and Mazacote recorded live at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster. Each artists’ full concert will be available to view in its entirety following the August 22 live broadcast event.
“Uptown Live is an important event, not only to the Uptown New Westminster business area, but to the BC Music industry. After having to cancel this year’s summer festival due to COVID-19, we decided to reimagine the event,” said Bart Slotman, Board President, Uptown Business Association.
“The whole performing arts sector has been hit hard. Small businesses are suffering. The virtual concert is in response to the rapid changes in music content creation and distribution taking place throughout the world. There was an urgency to make something happen to shine a light on the incredible creators in our backyard and the businesses in our community while ensuring people are safe and healthy.”
“We are delighted to be playing a role in getting the industry working again,” said Douglas Smith, Managing Partner, Alliance West Sports & Entertainment who is producing the concert in association with Hubcast Media. “We are thrilled to be working with the team at Massey Theatre to make it happen.”
TD Uptown Live Virtual Edition 2020 is a presentation of the Uptown Business Association of New Westminster and is made possible through the support of TD Bank Group, Creative BC, and the City of New Westminster. The festival launched in 2012 and draws thousands to Uptown New Westminster each July. It has gained a reputation for showcasing top BC-based indie music artists.
